For years, the home networking industry has relied on turnkey solutions from chip manufacturers and open source projects. But this is the wrong direction. The truth is that neither large companies nor enthusiasts are able to bring a high-quality product to market and maintain it over an extended period of time.
Imagine buying a new computer or smartphone and having to pre-select all the programmes and apps before you buy. Then imagine you want to add something later ... And? You have to buy a new device! Sounds crazy, doesn't it? That's exactly how the Wi-Fi router industry works today! Every time a new feature is needed, a new router has to be bought.
Keenetic is going in a completely different direction with its modular operating system. With KeeneticOS, users can add the functions they want, just as computers and smartphones do today. Do you want remote access, VPN or mesh Wi-Fi? Then just add it! Are there functions you no longer need? Simply delete them to free up memory. That way you are always at the peak of your performance.
A router with endless possibilities - sustainable and flexible. Keenetic realised that the only way to bring about strategic change was to develop its own hardware-independent network operating system. The development of KeeneticOS has enabled customers and Keenetic to explore avenues that other brands simply lack the courage to explore.
UNIQUE SELLING POINTS
Agile development with the support of the community
The more than 10,000 active users are involved in the agile development process and help to check the quality of KeeneticOS before it is delivered to millions of customers. There are three update channels for KeeneticOS: Main Channel, Preview and Developer. This approach ensures both agility in product development and stability in updates for the mass market.
Continuous improvement of the operating system
As the Internet and networks are constantly evolving, all Keenetic devices are supplied with monthly operating system updates for at least four years to keep the software up to date. Updates include bug fixes and security measures as well as exciting new features and support for the latest peripherals. The Keenetic device can update itself automatically on a user-defined schedule if the user agrees. A dual flash memory ensures fail-safe automatic updates.
Uninterrupted connectivity
Keenetic gives users the freedom to connect to multiple ISPs simultaneously to enable failover and ideal load balancing across VDSL, multiple Gigabit Ethernet, fibre, Wi-Fi and 3G/4G connections (depending on model). Multiple Internet connection policies can be assigned to different device groups or network segments to ensure that Internet access is not interrupted.
Traffic classification and prioritisation
Latency is much more important than pure Internet speed. Keenetic implements a proprietary Active Queue Management algorithm to reduce network delays and minimise latency. To differentiate between more than 1,700 applications, Keenetic integrates a Rohde & Schwarz R&S®PACE 2 traffic inspection engine. IntelliQoS ensures inbound and outbound bandwidth with minimal delay for prioritised applications and tasks via predefined drag-and-drop category presets.
Continuous and secure Wi-Fi coverage
The Keenetic Mesh Wi-Fi system is expandable via Gigabit Ethernet or wireless and ensures seamless roaming throughout the home or office, regardless of the structure and size of the site. It supports the industry standard 802.11k/r/v for seamless roaming and client steering. It extends all network segments, e.g. multiple Wi-Fi networks (sales, support, guests). The wireless mesh network reconfigures itself dynamically if a node fails.
Reliable protection against cyber threats
Keenetic offers cloud-based content filtering and ad blocking options from AdGuard, CleanBrowsing, Cloudflare, Neustar, NextDNS, OpenDNS, Quad9 and SafeDNS. This increases user productivity through continuous access and comprehensive protection against hackers, viruses and other threats.
Secure remote connectivity with VPN
With a secure VPN connection, companies can connect their branch offices, subsidiaries and home office employees to the internal network. Keenetic supports several deployment scenarios: Site-to-site VPN, VPN server, VPN client. Depending on the installed system components, the following VPN options are available: IPSec, PPTP, L2TP, L2TP/IPSec, OpenVPN, SSTP, IKEv1, IKEv2, IPIP, EoIP, GRE and Wireguard.
Uncomplicated management - at any time and from anywhere
The Keenetic web interface is the primary method of managing a Keenetic device and provides all features and configuration options. Users can book a private domain name with the free KeenDNS service to get secure, HTTPS-protected remote management of their network anytime, anywhere.
Continuous monitoring and remote control
Keenetic's remote monitoring and management system is a cloud-based solution designed specifically for small and medium-sized businesses to keep critical networks and infrastructure online around the clock. It is a powerful tool that provides continuous and detailed operational feedback on user activity, connected devices, network traffic, system breaches and ISP performance.
